Living Arrangement # is a solo show by London artist Beatrice Loft Schulz. Elaborate and decorative making processes respond to living in austerity conditions by insisting on pleasure, for the artist first of all. Not the masturbatory pleasure of self-criticism but a glittery, sexy, excessive pleasure; a vital, living pleasure. Loft Schulz will use the form of the solo show to work through and reconstruct references, such as a sentence from the Evening Standard style guide, a cave in Langue D’Oc, or graffiti in a Berlin petrol station, which have proliferated a series of works. An expansive writing practice is realised through craft, where the making processes perform the texture, cavities, structure of text. The artist will be in residency leading up to the exhibition, constructing the works and inviting other people to be part of the process.
Beatrice Loft Schulz, born in the year of the tiger, lives and works in the year of the goat.
