For Miart Milan 2025, Arcadia Missa and Misako & Rosen are pleased to present new works by Reina Sugihara.
Reina Sugihara (b. 1988, Tokyo, JP) is a Tokyo-based artist whose evocative paintings delves into haptic moments, capturing the essence of the body through a fusion of matter and memory. Guided by a structured process of experimentation, Sugihara traces the visceral memory of forms, drawing inspiration from anatomical drawings and found objects, notably an egg-shaped stone that left a lasting impression. Her works, characterized by spiraling cuts and faded lines amidst pale silky hues, evoke hazy memories of sensations rather than the physical form. Embracing chance, erasure, and layering, Sugihara distorts linguistic signification, inviting viewers to experience profound emotions and memories. Her practice weaves together personal experiences and abstracted empathy to create enigmatic visual narratives, immersing us in the sensations they evoke.
